Kenneth W. Klinger, 86, of Palmyra passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 in an auto accident.


He was born April 21, 1927 in Boalsburg, PA, son of the late William J. and Ruth (Wieland) Klinger.

Ken was a 1945 graduate of Palmyra High School and a WWII Army Air Corp veteran. He was a retired meat cutter for Acme Markets and also for the Milton Hershey School. He was of the United Church of Christ faith; a 50 plus year member of Brownstone Lodge #666 F&AM in Hershey and the Harrisburg Consistory; also a member of the Zembo Temple Shrine and the WBCCI Airstream Travel Club.

Kenneth is survived by; wife of 63 years, Geneva S. "Jean" Klinger; children, Barry K. (Brenda) Klinger, Lee Ann (Robin) Ream, and Brenda J. (Matthew) Lee; grandchildren, Beth K. (Craig) Nicarry, Ashley E. (Aaron) Gottier, and Jennifer L. Ream; step-grandchildren, Jessica, Matthew, Jr, and Michael Lee; 6 step-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 from 10 until 11 AM in the Hoover Funeral Home in Hershey. A Masonic Service will be at 11 AM followed by a celebration of life service.

Interment with full Military Honors will be in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial contributions be made to the Brownstone Temple Assn., P O Box 256, Hershey, PA 17033 (memo check for the Heritage Fund) or to the charity of donor's choice.

Central Penn Unit has lost a very active member of our club this week.

  Wow!! What a shock... Ken was one of the first member along with his brother John, to welcome Carol and I into the Club. I can remember Ken always there to make a Rally successful. Many times he would make alot of the meals for the get together. His wisdom and friendship were next to none. He also served as President of Central Penn. He and Jean were so Proud when their Grand daughter was running for Queen at WBCCI International Rally. Ken has done so much to make the club a better Airstream Club.

        Every time I would call with a problem or answer he would take care of it. When Ken went to Travelers Rest in Florida I ask him to look out for an Airstream with my wants and wishes. It wasn't long before I got the call that he found one. So off to Florida we would go to pick it up. He always had the Welcome mat out when we got together.       

         At Travelers Rest he knew everyone and would always get a site for me when we went to Florida. After 20 years in the Club, I was up for President, What a Honor to have Ken swear me in at my Installation Banquet. I am so Thankful for that.

   So I just want to say Good-bye Ken to a Loyal..Helpful..Caring..Friend ..We will all miss him !!!  Obie

    We have traveled many miles all over the USA and Alaska.
   We had 3 members on the caravan to Alaska. We had some attend the International and Volunteer.
   We lost a few members this year also, let us remember them in our Thoughts.
   The Rallys were special  this year as we made friends with Penn-Lehigh Unit and shared fun and work(?) with them, let's hope we can do the same next year.

Making Apple Butter.. it takes 6-8 hours of cooking & stirring to make it. The crowd waited for jars of  Apple Butter to take home. I even got a quart of it..Mmmm Mmmm Good.

Now That's a Crew!!! Notice our leader "John" is laying down!! Also Ben from the park is here to guide us. We had a great 5 days here in exchange for Free Camping!!! Our goal is to give back to Pa. State Parks by Volunteering our talents and labor. Many hands made this Fun!!

Here we are in Little Buffalo State Park. The new officers are taking over for 2013 year!! Here is Charlie swearing in John Bates as our New President. Sue Bates  is past president and Jo Ann Olshefski is 1st VP. Congratulations to all. This is John's official 1st Rally here, we are also joined by Penn Lehigh Unit to make this Rally successful.
  We are helping the staff at Little Buffalo have their Annual Fall Fest. We are running the old water/wheel mill ... more later!!

Steve and grandson Eli out Kayaking! Here is a brief story that I got from Linda....
In June we headed west to meet up with our son and grandson who live in Seattle. After spending a few days in Yellowstone and we met up with them in Glacier National Park for nearly two weeks of camping, kayaking, sailing, bike riding and hiking. Eli is 5 and so he and I worked on his program so he could be sworn in as a Junior Ranger and he got his badge. I love the drive along the Going To The Sun Road. After leaving them we began to head "sort of" east. We stopped for a week in Ely, MN, in Fall Lake, a National Forest campground, where we spent our days kayaking in Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, an area of tens of thousands of lakes in an area set aside and kept as total wilderness as it was when Lewis and Clark traveled through there.




Continuing eastward, we came with our aluminum wigwam to the shores of Gitchi-Gumee (Lake Superior) and have been slowly meandering our way along ths side of it. When we arrived in Grand Portage on the Canadian border we were enjoying the Grand Portage National Monument - think beaver fur trade for beaver hats, learned of the Rendezvous, an annual living history re-enactment and extended for the weekend to participate. Totally enthalled with that, we were told that we would probably enjoy Fort William in Thunder Bay, Ontario, even more so and we headed up there. The campground there is in its second year and included for the campers is a tour guide at 10am. Since we were the only ones who showed up on Monday morning we had our own private tour guide - in period (early 1800s) costume in period "person" - for more than two hours. We spent the entire day there as it is huge and we found it so interesting.



We have continued "inching" our way along this side of the Lake hiking in boreal forests rich in birch and pines, heavy in mosses and colorful lichens. Some hiking trails are somewhat rough with entwinded tree roots and jutting rocks, climbing over boulders with absolutely stunning views of the Lake as it sparkles in the sun. We've been kayaking in glacial carved clear water lakes which we've had mostly or entirely to ourselves, so quiet. It is only August 21st but there is no mistake, the trees are changing color. Tomorrow we plan to turn away from the Lake, heading further north along Hwy 11 which has been called "Canada's Route 66" and hope to see moose, etc.

April 12, 2012... Today we said Good-Bye to Our friend Lou Jacobs. The Church was full of friends and Family. But most of all Lou was buried in Full Boy Scout Uniform. He had all his Badges on him even the Silver Beaver Award( Highest Award given to an adult for his service to the Boy Scouts)

It was hard to see him today for the last time..Oh what Memories flashed before our eyes. The service was beautiful. The Priest pointed out different things that Lou made in wood working that he did for the church. The Lectern, The Altar, and also the Large Cross on the wall with Jesus Christ on it. He said Lou made all these with the lumber from the same tree...Beautiful!!! He also helped the Boys Scouts redo all the stain windows in the church & also played a big part in the building of the social/fellowship hall.

When Airstreaming, Lou often led the Caravan down the road. Guess who led this Funeral to the cemetery? Yes it was Lou again!! The internment was at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. We drove about 35 miles together to get there, we were met by the Military Staff and stopped at one of the pavilions for the service. The Military conducted a Full Military Salute to Lou( He was a Korean Veteran). 21 Gun Salute, Taps, and also the Flag ceremony with a presentation to Stephanie.

Afterwards we gathered at a local restaurant for some refreshments and to talk about memories. Today was hard for me because of losing a friend who had the same interests as me. I will always remember his out going personality and friendship. "Good Bye Lou" but always on my heart!! God Bless...... Amen

Louis S. Jacobs

Louis S. Jacobs, 81, of Duncannon, PA, formerly of Aldan, PA died peacefully at home on April 9th, 2012 surrounded by his loving and caring family.
Lou was born on July 5, 1930 in Philadelphia, PA the son of the late Nicholas and Catherine (Fiocca) Jacobs.
His three loves were God and Church, his family, and country. He was a devoted husband and loving father above all else. He served on church council at St. Bernadette Church in Duncannon where he was also a Eucharistic Minister among many other duties. He proudly served in the US Army in Korea as a Combat Engineer and was a member of Philadelphia VFW Post 7648. Lou was a hand type compositor by trade and later partnered in a business in the trade until he retired in 1992. He served on the Susquenita School Board. Lou was a scoutmaster for many years. He also served as Chairman of High Adventure to Philmont Scout Ranch, NM for the Boys Scouts of America. Lou loved the outdoors, especially camping, where he enjoyed going all across the United States with his wife and their travel-trailer friends. He was a member of Duncannon Outdoor Association. Lou also enjoyed handyman work, crabbing, woodworking, and taking care of his home. His life, full of love and memories, will forever be held in the hearts of family and friends.
Survivors are his loving wife Stephanie (Kalinowski) Jacobs of 57 years; beloved daughters, Mary Anne, (Hugh) McElhenney and Louise (Richard) Amspacher; beloved son "J" Joseph (Joan) Jacobs; Loving brother Raymond (late Mamie) Jacobs; Loving sister Betty (Joe) Lafferty; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also survived by cousins and nieces and nephews.
Family, relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, April 12, 2012 in the St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 901 High Street, Duncannon, PA, with Rev. Dr. John Trigilio, Jr. and Very Rev. William Forrey as celebrants. A viewing will be held from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Thursday in the social hall of the church. Internment at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA will immediately follow the church service.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Michael J. Shalonis Funeral Home, Marysville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or St. Bernadette Church Building Fund, 121 Williams Street, Marysville, PA 17053. Shalonis -- Marysville

Lou has been a loyal friend for the past 2 decades. His love of Airstreams brought us together. We have travel to many states and many Rallies Too! He was our only member to serve 2 terms as President becaused he loved the club and the members. His wit and will to serve others will be forever in our minds. His stories of the Scouts(that he loved) and all his years as a volunteer for them. Lou sure knew how to squeeze every minute out of life. He would jump in everytime to help anyone. He sure loved Happy Hour with his Friends! There are so many memories of Lou it is hard to write them all down but I made a picture tribute to him that I hope you will enjoy...ah So Many Memories!!! So Lou made this map of trips all around the USA. A few thousand miles??? If you click on above picture you can see some of the routes.This was cool to see all their routes and visualize the good old USA.

Dec.3,2011 We had our Central Penn Unit Christmas Dinner at the Park City Diner. We had a total of 19 persons attend. Lights, Woods, Barrs, Landvaters, Jacobs & granddaughter, Sanders, Olshefskis & grandson Theresa Davis, and the Obers. The dinner was hosted by Dennis & Carol Ober. Everybody ordered off the menu and enjoyed their selection. Door prizes were the Center pieces of flowers and little Christmas trees, won by Landvaters, Lights, & Jacobs. There was also little Christmas candles for each family as well as Hershey candy filled candy canes. We all gave our Christmas Wishes to all and left about 2 hours later.

Here it is October already!! Time to changing of the guard. Welcome Sue Bates as our new President. This is John her husband. She has alot planned this year for 2012. So, lets all get behind her and Volunteer to make her year a Smooth One!
The first activity planned was the Conservation Rally at Little Buffalo State Park in Newport,Pa. There were 4 airstream families there for a free campout inexchange for 2 days of operating the old fashion mill. We made corn meal and bagged it for sale. Also we ran the apple cider press to make apple cider for the public to sample. The place was busy both days with lots of visitors. The members helping were , John & Sue Bates, Felix & JoAnn Olshefski, Jackie & Carl Light, Audrey & Ken Kandvater and also Lou Jacobs came to help out Too! Maybe next year we can ask other units to join us for a fun and "Free" camping week. Contact Sue if interested.
The next dinner planned is December 3,2011 at Park City Diner( Lancaster,Pa.) at the Park City Complex across from the JC Penny Store. The dinner begins at 1:30 pm and you can order off the menu (Senior Prices Too) So Please Plan your Unit Christmas get together and mark this date. Call Dennis @ 717-572-8335 to reserve a spot by Nov 25.
